30 November - 08 December 2024

The 38th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (November 30 to December 8, 2024) has Spain as the Guest of Honor country. Under the coordination of the literary program of Sergio Ramírez, organized by the General Directorate of Books, Comics and Reading and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), with the collaboration of the Editors' Guild of Spain and the University of Guadalajara, this participation will make visible the diversity of Spanish literature both due to the plurality of its languages and its literary genres.

Spain was already a Guest of Honor country of the FIL in 2000 and, twenty-four years later, this is an opportunity to show the evolution of the publishing sector and its internationalization.

The goals of Spain as guest of honor at the 2024 Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) are:

1. To showcase the cultural and linguistic diversity of Spain:

  • A wide selection of authors and works will be presented that represent the cultural richness and variety of the country's co-official languages: Castilian, Catalan, Basque, and Galician.
  • Activities will be organized to explore Spanish cultural diversity, such as roundtables, exhibitions, and workshops.

2. To strengthen cultural ties with Mexico and Latin America:

  • Spain's participation in the FIL 2024 will serve to strengthen cultural ties between Spain and Mexico, as well as with the rest of Latin America.
  • Cultural exchange and collaboration between authors, publishers, and cultural institutions from both sides of the Atlantic will be promoted.

3. To promote the Spanish publishing industry:

  • The FIL 2024 will be an opportunity to showcase the vibrant Spanish publishing industry to an international audience.
  • Professional meetings will be organized to promote the buying and selling of copyrights and the translation of Spanish works into other languages.

4. To foster reading and access to books:

  • Activities will be carried out to promote reading amongst the public, especially amongst young people.
  • Access to books will be promoted in all areas of society, including rural and marginalised areas.

Contact reading. Poetics and experimentation in Spain. 1962-1972

29 November 2024 - 23 February 2025

Museo Cabañas (Guadalajara, Mexico)

The Spain of the 1960s, marked by the apparent stability of Francoism, harboured a cauldron of ideas and artistic expressions that defied established boundaries. The exhibition "Reading by contact. Poetics and experimentation in Spain. 1962-1972" immerses us in a universe of experimentation where language is freed from its conventional bonds to become a vehicle of social and political transformation.
