Foodscapes

FOODSCAPES is a journey to the architectures that feed the world; from the domestic laboratories of our kitchens to the vast operational landscapes that nourish our cities. Through an audiovisual project of five films, an archive as a recipe book and a public program of conversations and debates, FOODSCAPES explores the Spanish agro-architectural context – Europe's food engine – to address issues of global scope. We will analyze the past and present of our food systems and the architectures that build them, to from there look to the future and ask ourselves about other possible models; ones capable of feeding the world without devouring the planet.

The exhibition was organized as part of the 18th Venice International Architecture Biennale, between 20 May and 26 November 2023. Spain participated with a pavilion inside the Giardini della Biennale, managed by the Spanish Cooperation Agency International for Development (AECID), with the collaboration of Action Cultural Española, which for this edition presented the project: FOODSCAPES, work of the UTE formed by the architects Eduardo Castillo Vinuesa and Manuel Ocaña del Valle. This exhibition development presented the research of Castillo Vinuesa and Ocaña del Valle on the architectures of the food production, distribution and consumption chain, from the domestic to the territorial.
