The Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, presented today in Mexico City a preview of the 'Spain Country Guest of Honor' program of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) 2024, which will be held in the Mexican city on 30 November to December 8. With the motto 'Way back and forth', proposed by the literary curator Sergio Ramírez, 2017 Cervantes Prize, the presence of Spain in the FIL, directed by the Ministry of Culture, together with Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), is It proposes to project the image of a plural, diverse and multicultural country, a link between Europe and Latin America.
With gender equality, linguistic plurality, bibliodiversity and sustainability as strategic pillars, Spain travels to the FIL with a delegation of around 150 authors in the literary and professional program. All genres and literary formats will be present, including essayists, novelists, comic authors, illustrators and poets, but also scientists and professionals from the book ecosystem who will debate the main challenges of the sector. Furthermore, both territorial balance has been sought, with the presence of all the autonomous communities, and the representativeness of the sector, with authors from more than 60 publishers, promoting independent ones. Along with the delegation of authors, musicians, artists and creators will travel and enrich the agenda with musical and theatrical shows, visual arts exhibitions, and a gastronomic program led, for the first time, by a female chef, Begoña Rodrigo de Jorge.
In his speech, Urtasun highlighted Spain's involvement in all FIL programs and projects: “We wanted to make the most of this great opportunity for our country and for our culture, which always grows in dialogue with other literary expressions. or editorials.” Regarding the program, he has stated that it is “very complete and diverse, with a wide presence of authors, with voices from the most diverse generations, multilingual, with room for all genres and formats, with quality and creative originality.” .
