Tomás Luis de Victoria at the Festival de Vélez Blanco

The Universidad de Almería and the Vélez Blanco City Council are the organizers of the tenth summer course and the 10th Festival Música Renacentista y Barroca de Vélez Blanco (International Renaissance and Baroque Music Festival). The course takes the form of workshops, conferences and concerts with the aim of providing students, teachers and visitors with a broad musical and cultural offering.

Workshops for choirs, plucked stringed instruments, dance, organ and clavichord were accompanied by conferences exploring the cultural, musical and political context of Spain in the era of Tomás Luis de Victoria, to mark the 400th anniversary of his death.

The evening concerts which make up the Tenth Festival Internacional de Música Renacentista y Barroca de Vélez Blanco were staged at Renaissance stages in Vélez Blanco and featured a number of national and international ensembles and orchestras, with a musical programme ranging from the 16th to 19th centuries.

Spanish Cultural Action (AC/E), the Spanish Ministry of Culture and co-production of the Andalusian Regional Government's Department of Culture were behind the production of two concerts: De Sayón la Rebeldía and Canticum Nativitatis Domini.
