This documentary (Sex, maracas and Chihuahuas) tells the story of the only Spaniard with four stars on Hollywood’s Fame Walk: Xavier Cugat. It is a joyful, music-filled biopic that spans two continents and from black and white to colour, with extracts from films shot in the studio and by the major studios with star-studded casts.
It pays tribute to the rise of the radio and the great orchestras and surveys the history of the legendary clubs and dancehalls in hotels and casinos shortly after the end of Prohibition, and the soundtracks of great musicals and television shows. It is a story of romances featuring Mafiosi, luxury cars and film sets with palm trees. It spans from Cuba to Barcelona, including the mecca of motion pictures and the birth of Las Vegas to the sound of maracas. All in all, the documentary explores the incredible life of Xavier Cugat.
