Picasso's will. The ceramics that inspired the artist

This admiration, and the meeting with Lluís Maria Llubià, led to Picasso's donation of 16 ceramic works to the Barcelona Art Museums. These ceramics are currently part of the collections of the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona. Picasso placed a single condition on the donation: that "they be exhibited together with an important collection owned by said museums" (donation document dated April 26, 1957).

On the occasion of the Picasso Celebration 1973-2023, the Museu del Disseny proposes to continue fulfilling this wish by showing the total of 16 pieces donated by the artist in dialogue with the collection of historic ceramics that it preserves. It also explains a story, that of the donation to the Barcelona Art Museums that begins with the Spanish ceramics exhibition held in Cannes in 1957. This is the starting point of the exhibition, in which it takes a tour historical to the present, showing an approximation of what Picasso could see in said exhibition, and fulfilling his desire to establish a relationship between his works and traditional ceramics.
