Seventeen years ago the international performing arts festival Transversales embarked on a search through the labyrinths of stage creation and production. This journey has led to many exchanges between creators, audiences and theatre researchers, and has established an increasingly common dialogue on ways of acting and thinking in the performing arts and in life and the relationships that underpin them. Transversales 18 is taking place for the second time in the city of San Luis Potosí and is inviting audiences to be part of new creative relationships that make up the contemporary scene. As always, the programme brings together the work of stage artists, creative workshops, book presentations and a wide-ranging reflection on the creative processes of the guest artists.
This year Transversales features Spanish artists Juan Domínguez Rojo and Olga de Soto, whose participation has been made possible by the AC/E Mobility grants for the internationalisation of Spanish culture. The broadcast devoted to the Spanish artist Juan Domínguez Rojo presents two of his most emblematic shows – Clean Room and Todos los buenos espías tienen mi edad – as well as a workshop on his creative process. The artist will also take part in public talks with the event’s organisers.
The choreographer Olga de Soto is teaching a workshop El archivo como materia de creación / el cuerpo como archivo (The archive as creative matter / the body as archive) and is presenting La Mesa Verde (1932) on a bare stage accompanied by various videos projected on a screen and archive images. La Mesa verde (The Green Table, 1932) is the legendary ballet by the German choreographer Kurt Jooss, which was premiered a few months before Hitler came to power in Germany.
