Tirana Book Fair has taken place every November since 1997. Organised by the Association of Albanian Publishers, the event features more than eighty stands displaying the latest novelties from the publishing sector. It is the literary event with the greatest impact in the area, including Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro.
Toena Publishing House, one of the largest firms of publishers in Albania, started out in 1993 and brings out an average of 200 books every year. It specialises in history, Albanian literature, teaching methods, children’s literature and international fiction. Since the outset it has regularly taken part in both national book fairs (Tirana, Pristina and Tetovo) and major international events of this kind such as the Frankfurt, Geneva, Bologna and Brussels book fairs. The publishing house also has a catalogue of foreign literature, to which it has recently added Soldados de Salamina (published in English as Soldiers of Salamis) by Javier Cercas.
Toena Publishing House, through the first AC/E mobility programme, has requested AC/E’s collaboration to support the participation of Javier Cercas as guest of honour at its stand for the launch of his book at Tirana Book Fair, with the aim of making Albanian readers more familiar with this writer’s work.
