Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) is taking part in this initiative of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and Google Cultural Institute. ‘The Routes of Cervantes’, one of the most complete virtual exhibitions on Miguel de Cervantes to date, brings together more than 1,000 files – including photographs, videos and virtual tours – encompassing the life and oeuvre of the famous writer. The exhibition is available online at g.co/LasRutasDeCervantes, free of charge, in Spanish and English, for both computers and mobiles.
Acción Cultural Española, Agencia EFE, Archivos Estatales, Asociación Española de Pintores y Escultores, Museo Casa Cervantes de Valladolid, Museo Casa Natal de Cervantes, Real Academia Española and Teatro Real have closely collaborated on the project, which aims to bring to life Cervantes the man, his prolific oeuvre and his cultural significance as part of the commemorations of the 400th anniversary of his death. This initiative offers an unprecedented experience that allows anyone anywhere in the world to immerse themselves fully in the life and work of Cervantes and is a source of reference for the dissemination and teaching of Cervantes’s legacy.
Renowned historians and curators helped design ‘The Routes of Cervantes’, which consists of 18 virtual exhibitions and five 360-degree tours of the most representative places in the life of Miguel de Cervantes, such as the Casa Natal de Cervantes, his birthplace, and the Casa de Valladolid where the writer is believed to have penned the first lines of Don Quixote.
For the first time, with the support of engineers and specialists, Google Cultural Institute has developed an interactive history which allows viewer access to an outstanding selection of manuscripts, paintings and texts, making for a unique experience that recreates the life, oeuvre and times of Cervantes through the voice of the historian Alfredo Alvar Ezquerra, curator of this project and a member of the Real Academia de Historia.
