Madrid, 07/19/2023.- 'Avetimología-Birdtymology', the animated short film commissioned by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) to Sygnatia within the framework of the Cultural Program of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, tells the history of Europe and Spain through different species of birds that accompany us on a journey through history, art and nature,
The director, Xosé Zapata, will shoot during July and August in A Coruña, in the Stop Motion Virtual Set of the AMIGA Center in Carral, his new short in which tributes to our cultural heritage can be seen, from the painting by Velázquez, Durero or Picasso, or our most recent history.
Sygnatia, an animation producer, has been awarded on different occasions with the Goya Award, the European Film Award or the Platinum Award for Ibero-American Cinema. Xosé Zapata, his director, has won the Goya for best animated short film for his previous short “The Monkey”. Also taking part in the “Avetimología-Birdtymology” is a team made up of highly experienced professionals: the artistic director, Lorenzo Degl'Innocenti (Goya Award winner); the musician Manuel Riveiro (Nominated for a Goya for best music in 2018); or the animator Carla Pereira (nominated twice for the Goya Award for her short films "Metamorfosis" and "Proceso de Selección"); and the special effects technician, Iñaki Madariaga, winner of the Goya Award and the European Award for Best Visual Effects for his work in the feature film “El Hoyo”.
With 'Avetimología-Birdtymology', which will premiere in December in Brussels within the framework of the Cultural Program of the Spanish Presidency, Acción Cultural Española wants to send a message of support to the Spanish animation industry, which stands out worldwide for its quality and achievements. Spain is the fifth country in the world in the production of animated feature films and the second in Europe, and generates 25% of jobs in the audiovisual sector.
The Ukrainian animation studio "Persac Studio" based in the city of Leopolis participates in the short, as a symbol of support for the efforts of Spain and the European Union for peace and collaboration with the Ukrainian people.
