Spanish theatre. For the first time in Russian

The Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre and the Centro Dramático Nacional (CDN), with the collaboration of AC/E, are presenting a project entitled Teatro Español. Por primera vez en ruso (Spanish theatre. For the first time in Russian), which is the result of an exchange programme run by the CDN with the Moscow Art Theatre and aimed at promoting young theatre directors and actors.

The project, defined as a laboratory for staging productions, consists in presenting sketches created after two weeks of rehearsals with Russian actors and allowing the audience to decide if it is worth continuing with them. The theatre will experiment with several Spanish works and could feature the best one in its programme.

The project is being run in two phases, the first during the last quarter of 2014 and the second in the first quarter of 2015. During the first, José Padilla will direct his play Haz clic aquí and José Manuel Casero will direct Blanca Domenech’s work Boomerang.

Haga clic aquí is a text which, as its author stresses, was “written in a rehearsal room and about here and now, from news that resonated in the newspapers… in our tablets and smartphones”. In it Ruth is accused of dealing Javier a brutal blow when drunk one night. The only evidence is a video that is by no means clear, but once it has been uploaded on the internet there is no turning back.

Boomerang, by Blanca Domenech, is set in a huge financial centre and its characters belong to the upper echelons of power, the elite. It is the point of departure for a plot where an irrepressible desire for dominance and control by causing others pain unfolds, where everything is motivated by self-interest and not by emotions.
