Scenes for a conversation after viewing a Michael Haneke film

Under the mobility programme of the PICE, AC/E is supporting the performance at the Museo Nacional del Chopo – which is part of the Mexico’s Universidad Autónoma – of the playEscenas para una conversación después del visionado de una película de Michael Haneke (Scenes for a conversation after viewing a Michael Haneke film), written and performed by the Valencia company El conde de Torrefiel as part of its performing arts programme for 2014.

The company, which stands out on the Spanish performing arts scene, has shaped a distinctive poetics of its own within a short time. Written in a fresh and bold language, the works of these young artists address the everyday tragedies of today’s world with a mixture of humour and melancholy, creating a tonal contrast that provides the spectator with a dizzy-paced and memorable experience.

El Conde de Torrefiel, a company founded by Pablo Gisbert and Tanya Beyeler, is presenting one of its latest creations for the first time in Mexico: Escenas para una conversación después del visionado de una película de Michael Haneke. A short run consisting of six performances with high-profile publicity is an opportunity to make their work known to Mexican audiences.

In order to generate a creative dialogue with Mexican audiences and artists, these performances are accompanied by a stage composition workshop entitled Actuar en la cabeza del que mira (Acting in the head of the spectator) and a talk with representatives of emerging local groups whose personal poetics can resonate with that of their Spanish peers, promoting reflexion and establishing ties between contemporary playwrights of both parts of the world.
