Retrato de un monstruo (Portrait of a monster) is a bilateral artistic project produced jointly by Uruguay and Spain with the support of Germany. It is a stage piece that is being developed in collaboration with Uruguayan, Spanish and German artists. It is supported by INAE Uruguay, Festival FIDCU Montevideo, Festival Salmón Barcelona, an artist residency at CCE/ Centro cultural de España Montevideo, GRANER, and Iberescena (2014).
This piece by Ayara Hernández / Lupita Pulpo features the artists Miguel Jaime, Leticia Skrycky, Paula Giuria, Erika del Pino (Uruguay), Felix Marchand (Germany), Cristina Blanco, Amaranta Velarde (Spain) and guest photographers in each of the countries involved.
The research for this production has been carried out in several phases: in 2014 the initial laboratory and research was begun during an artist residency in Casarrodante (Uruguay); rehearsals were carried out in Berlin and subsequently in Graner, as part of the Interpolación project with the support of Iberescena. In 2015 two periods of creation were established, one in Uruguay (Montevideo) and the other in Spain (Barcelona). The first phase took place during a two-month artist residency (February– April) at the Centro Cultural de España in Montevideo. And the second phase of the artist and technical residency took place in Spain (October – November) featuring the premiere performance as part of the Festival Salmón del Mercat de les Flors and later in Berlin at Tanzfabrik/Uferstudios.
The project ends with the presentation of the piece in Montevideo as part of the Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea del Uruguay (FIDCU) (May 2016). AC/E is supporting its presentation by facilitating the presence of Spanish artists Amaranta Velarde González and Cristina Blanco Folgado.
