On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Academy and, within the framework of the project Living several times at the same time. The shared memory of the Academy of Spain in Rome curated by the cultural manager and member of the Academy's board of trustees, Santiago Eraso, the Tolosa International Puppet Center (TOPIC) presents the show "Retablillo de Don Cristóbal" by the company Nao d 'amores, montage, devised and directed by Ana Zamora as the culmination of her research work at the Academy.
Likewise, the documentary "Nise, a trip in the Nao d'amores" directed and made by María Royo, resident at the Academy 2017-18, will be presented, through which she immerses us in the theatrical universe of the company. The program co-organized by TOPIC and the Academy combines pre-baroque theater and Lorca puppet theater in two days, sharing the creative and collaborative processes behind these projects.
Was Federico García Lorca the hero who rescued a dying tradition, by insisting on integrating blackjack puppets into the great theater of his time, or rather the intellectual who put an end to what little remained of the popular referent, poetizing the most acratic of our great theatrical characters? In this duality we must move, and this is our starting point to lock ourselves in the rehearsal room and try to understand what the author proposes from his texts dedicated to the puppet theater ("Cristobícal-Burla", "Tragicomedia de don Cristóbal y la señá Rosita”, and “Retablillo de don Cristóbal”).
