The Residência Paulo Reis is a residency for international artists. Its name is a tribute to the work and attitude of the curator Paulo Reis, a unique figure in building bridges between Brazil, Portugal and Spain. The residency is part of the wide-ranging programme implemented by Ateliê Fidalga in Sao Paulo, which currently has three areas of action: Grupo de Estudos, Projeto Fidalga and the Residência Paulo Reis. The Brazilian artists Sandra Cinto and Albano Afonso are its mentors and promotors.
The Residência Paulo Reis provides its guest artists with a studio-workshop where they can carry out their work and organises meetings with other artists and curators. At the end of the residency the artist’s work is exhibited at Projeto Fidalga. Some of the artists who have enjoyed a Residência Paulo Reis are Nuno Souza Viera (2012), Mauro Cerqueira (2012), Raphael Zarka (2013), Amália Pica (2013), seven Japanese artists through an exchange with Japan’s Masashino University (2014), Pedro Alonso (2015), Pamela Prado (2015) and Flora Parrott (2015).
This year the Spanish artist Carlos Maciá has been selected to carry out a one-month residency at Ateliê Fidalga with the support of AC/E through its Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture.
