Portrait of a Woman is a project designed by the Polish publishing company Biuro Literackie to promote Spanish literature and culture in Poland in the long term. AC/E is collaborating on the project through its mobility awards, which on this occasion are facilitating the participation of creators Marina Mayoral and Carmen Riera.
The project includes the following actions:
· Publication of the ‘Portrait of a Woman’ anthology, which includes a selection of works by Marina Mayoral, Berta Marsé, Carme Riera, Almudena Grandes, Yanet Acosta, Rosa Montero, Cristina Peri Rosi, Laura Freixas, Soledad Puértolas and Esther Tusquets.
· Presentation of the authors in the internet portal Przystan!, which features interviews with writers, translator’s comments, critiques and a selection of extracts from their works. They will also take part in the company’s television platform, where the audio-visual materials will be posted.
·Creation of the project’s own blog, edited by the book’s translator, to complement the presentations via the internet portal.
·Cultural, literary and ideological debates focusing particularly on gender issues. For this purpose leading Polish women writers, journalists and artists will be invited to speak and take part in the project.
·The 19th Festival Port Literacki (25–26 April 2014), to be held at the Modern Theatre in Wroclaw, will be the high point of the project. The festival will give priority to the debate on the notion of gender literature, which will include the anthology, and in which Marina Mayoral and a second person (Almudena Grandes or Yanet Acosta) will take part.
