Open Studio is an annual event basically designed to promote and disseminate the visual arts. Its objectives are:
1. To complete the cultural and artistic offering of Madrid and Spain.
2. To create a new tool for bringing the public closer to contemporary art and contemporary art closer to be public, thereby facilitating access to culture through art free of charge and in a familiar way.
3. To provide artists – from up-and-coming to accomplished – with a chance to show their oeuvre, their way of working and their environment in an accessible way.
4. To promote and disseminate artists’ work through public and professional, Spanish and foreign media.
5. To internationalise Spanish art by promoting it globally.
6. To open up new channels of communication and collaboration. Open Studio is an inclusive project that seeks to create a working community and networks both within and outside our country.
7. To collaborate in activating the market, by creating a complementary market outlet in the medium term.
Open Studio contributes to generating and consolidating heritage, promotes contemporary artistic creation and provides artistic and cultural training. This year the educational and international programme has been extended to include new proposals and activities.
The advisory committee is made up of prominent people who enjoy great prestige in different areas of Spain’s contemporary art scene. Open Studio not only offers visitors the chance to discover how artists work and their personal and particular working environment but also provides artists with an opportunity to promote and make their work known to Spanish and foreign professionals from the art world and to anyone interested.
The artists’ studios will open their doors exclusively and especially for this occasion for five days from Wednesday 22 May to Sunday 26 May 2013. Gallery owners, museum directors, art foundations and centres, collectors, curators and institutions wishing to attend require a PROFESSIONAL INVITATION.
The general public may attend by invitation only. To obtain an invitation it is necessary to REGISTER.
