Miró-Picasso

Coinciding with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the death of Pablo Picasso and the 40th anniversary of that of Joan Miró, the Fundació Joan Miró and the Museu Picasso de Barcelona are preparing the Miró-Picasso exhibition, which can be seen in Barcelona simultaneously at both venues, between October 19, 2023 and February 25, 2024, and which is part of the "Picasso Celebration", promoted by the governments of France and Spain.

It is the first time that the Fundació Joan Miró and the Museu Picasso of Barcelona jointly organize, produce and host a single exhibition in two institutions that, in themselves, are a clear manifestation of the intense and extensive relationship that Miró and Picasso had with the City of Barcelona. The guiding thread of the exhibition is based on two essential concepts: on the one hand, the friendship that Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso maintained throughout their lives, which can be appreciated in works and documents that attest to their meetings, coincidences and divergences in the artistic field, and on the other, their recognition of Barcelona, which translated into the legacy that both left to the city in the form of monographic museums that bear their name.

Curated project, under the direction of Emmanuel Guigon and Marko Daniel, by Sònia Villegas and Teresa Montaner, from the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, and Margarida Cortadella and Elena Llorens, from the Museu Picasso in Barcelona, general coordination of the project by Sònia Villegas and the curatorial assistance of Véronique Dupas.
