Malba Literatura and Acción Cultural Española have launched the REM + AC/E programme whereby a grant will be awarded to a Spanish writer every year to enjoy the Malba Writers’ Residency. The programme is aimed at foreign writers and is designed as a forum for exchange and literary creation based on an invitation to spend five weeks in Buenos Aires as part of their artistic and professional development.
Thanks to the launch of this special REM + AC/E programme, the writer Javier Montes (Madrid, Spain, 1976) will be the third guest resident this year along with Luisa Geisler (Canoas, Brazil, 1991) and Daniel Saldaña París (Mexico City, 1984). The aim of this agreement is to establish ties between authors, publishers and managers of Spain and Argentina and to deepen existing dialogue, as well as to build networking and creative sharing between the two countries.
The writer was selected on the advice of an honorary committee made up of John M. Coetzee (writer, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, South Africa); M. Soledad Costantini (director, Malba Literatura); Christian Lund (director, Louisiana Literature Festival, Denmark); Valerie Miles (publisher, Granta en español, USA) and Jorge Monteleone (writer and researcher, Argentina).
REM +AC/E programme. This programme arose from the joint aim of the Malba Writers’ Residency and Acción Cultural Española to foster the internationalisation of Spanish and Argentinian creators and encourage collaboration between authors, publishers and managers of both countries. AC/E has decided to support Javier Montes’s presence in Buenos Aires in 2019 and to hold a joint call for applications in 2020 to select a Spanish writer for next year’s REM. The new call for applications for the REM +AC/E 2020 programme will take place in September through Malba’s website. The international jury appointed by the museum will shortlist three candidatures, which they will pass on to AC/E to assess and select the beneficiary.
