The 2016 programme for the Grec Festival of Barcelona is currently in preparation, not only in terms of shows, but also the many activities related to the performing arts world included in this year’s edition of the event. One of the most outstanding of these is the International Performing Arts Meeting (IPAM), which will take place this year from July 5 to 8.
IPAM is a meeting designed to promote the implementation of new artistic projects and exchanges of ideas, and new approaches and visions with regard to the performing arts, as well as the generation of exhibition and production projects. The essential goal of IPAM is to enable the circulation of shows produced in Catalonia at venues all over the globe, and to provide opportunities for cooperation between Catalan performers and international artists.
The meeting was first staged in 2013 as part of the Grec Festival of Barcelona. A total of 47 international performing arts professionals attended, from countries in Europe, South America and Canada. By 2015, the formula had been completely refined. The Grec Festival of Barcelona organised the meeting in cooperation with the Catalan Institute of Cultural Industries, attached to the Government of Catalonia’s Ministry of Culture, Institut Ramon Llull and Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), within the framework of the Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture (PICE).
The initiative also received support from Mercat de les Flors and El Graner. At the 2015 edition, the number of participants rose to 181, a considerable increase on the first two years, demonstrating that IPAM has become a firmly established event. The participants were 61 international programmers, 17 representatives from different institutions, 41 local programmers and 62 representatives from companies. Amongst the international programmers, 18 were from America, 4 from Asia, 38 from Europe and 1 from Oceania (Australia). The programme for the four-day event featured 48 activities, including visits to performances of shows, short presentations of stage projects, round tables, talks and presentations of institutions, as well as forums to encourage contacts and exchanges between companies, producers, programmers and the different institutions represented at IPAM.
