La Historia del Cautivo, based on Miguel de Cervantes

La Historia del Cautivo, based on Miguel de Cervantes

Continuing their many adventures, Don Quixote and Sancho Panza arrive at an inn where they come across a prisoner who has escaped from a Moorish prison. After dinner, he tells the story of his travels across León, Italy and Flanders, at the battle of Lepanto and during his captivity in Algiers, where he met the beautiful Zoraida. La historia del cautivo (Story of the captive) is a mixture of reality and fiction, as Miguel de Cervantes had travelled to Italy, fought in the battle of Lepanto and been imprisoned in Algiers.

The show, directed by May Sánchez, combines music, literature and theatre. Spanish, Italian and French music and the traditional melodies of the Mediterranean are the guiding thread of the story, which is performed by the singer June Telletxea and the ensemble Quatricinia on instruments from Cervantes’s day. The text consists of excerpts from Don Quixote.
