Graphic constellation

Graphic constellation

The exhibition, produced by the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) and organised by Acción Cultural Española and the Ministry of Culture, offers a journey through the universes of nine Spanish authors, exploring all the changes that have radically modified the comic ecosystem in Spain and that have allowed the emergence of a 'constellation' of avant-garde authors.

Bárbara Alca, Marta Cartu, Genie Espinosa, Ana Galvañ, Nadia Hafid, Conxita Herrero, María Medem, Miriampersand and Roberta Vázquez make up the constellation of creative universes in this exhibition. They are nine authors who experiment with styles and languages, who break the molds of comics and who share a critical and humorous view of the world.

«Graphic Constellation» presents the comics and the diversity of languages, aesthetic registers and cultural references of these nine creators who, through the use of colour, graphics or stylistic and narrative experimentation, have questioned canonical forms of comics.

In their work, these authors deal with, with a critical eye and humour, themes of millennial reality such as economic and labour precariousness, the disappearance of stability, the relationship with technology, sisterhood or relationships on the Internet.

The exhibition also invites us to discover how a network of self-publishing fairs, small publishers and printing houses have made possible the consolidation of an alternative scene in which these nine artists move and train. And it shows how comics can go beyond paper and have life in other artistic media such as ceramics, tapestries and animations.
