Within the framework of the participation of Spain as Guest Country of Honor in the FLF 2022, AC/E supports the publication of a monographic issue of Granta magazine dedicated to narrators in various languages of Spain, with the aim of promoting the diversity and plurality of Spanish culture and languages.
Under the editorial direction of Valerie Miles, and with the advice of Domingo Ródenas, Julià Guillamon, María José Olaziregi, Estibaliz Ezquerra and Berta Ares, the selected authors are: Xuan Bello, Montserrat Roig, Dimas Prychyslyy, Berta Dávila, Uxue Alberdi, Perejaume, Harkaitz Cano, Gonzalo Hidalgo Bayal, Karmele Jaio, Xesús Fraga, Rafa Lahuerta Yúfera, Julieta Valero, Susana Sánchez Arins, Adrià Pujol Cruells and Eider Rodríguez. The texts will be in their original language along with their translations into Spanish and English.
For 40 years, the British magazine "Granta" has focused on the future of literature, making predictions about young writers who will become the great storytellers of the future. Such fundamental names as Julian Barnes, Martin Amis, William Boyd, Pat Barker, Salman Rushdie or the Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro have passed through their lists.
Ten years ago, the magazine published a first issue dedicated exclusively to emerging talents in the Spanish language, in which names such as Alejandro Zambra, Andrés Barba, Patricio Pron, Elvira Navarro and Samantha Schweblin appeared. In 2021, a new issue was published dedicated to young narrators in Spanish with names such as Cristina Morales, Andrea Abreu, or Alejandro Morellón. They appear alongside Latin American colleagues such as Mónica Ojeda, Paulina Flores, Carlos Fonseca, or Mateo García Elizondo.
