Game Jam Cultura Abierta 2023

Between November 27 and December 3, in face-to-face and online formats, the sixth edition of the Open Culture Game Jam takes place, an initiative organized by DEV with the support of Acción Cultural Spanish to develop games using public domain cultural content generated in Spain as a base. During the contest, each team chooses the most evocative or inspiring reference material to create games based on creations by influential artists of Spanish culture.

Participants have 7 days - until Sunday, December 3 - to develop games using public domain cultural content generated in Spain as a base. Furthermore, the special theme of this edition will be water, in a year in which the centenary of the death of Joaquín Sorolla is celebrated, an artist who has often incorporated this element into his work.

The jam has two modalities, online and in person. The face-to-face modality will be held in Malaga at the headquarters of EVAD Escuela Superior Videojuegos y Arte Digital, which will open its doors to participants from Monday, November 27 to Wednesday, November 29, with their participation being able to continue online until Sunday, November 3. December.

The Open Culture Game Jam was born taking as a reference the "Public Domain Jam", which tried to encourage creators to use public domain licenses instead of continuing to make zombie games. This event picks up the torch and takes it to our country to reclaim all the culture that has been created within our borders.

The first five editions were a success in participation and attendance at the open exhibition days of the best video games created at the event. All developed games can be found herehttps://itch.io/c/459508/jam-cultura-abiertas-collection
