Frinje Madrid

Fringe14, the third edition of Frinje Madrid, will take place at Matadero between 4 and 27 July and again has the support of AC/E through its aid visitors' grants. AC/E has  invited to participate several international performing arts programmers in order that they know the landscape of the current Spanish performing arts sector.

The festival is a strong bid for the site-spec Entertainment: rooftops, alleys, warehouses, underground ... for which every corner of Matadero becomes a stage. On these scenarios are music, theater, dance, performance, circus, poetry and other unclassifiable shows that are selected from the 555 proposals received from 32 different countries.

This new edition has been enhanced to support the dramaturgical creation during the festival. In it participates actors, directors and writers to create pieces in various workshops and some of them are represented on stage.

The first edition of Frinje Madrid took place during July and August 2012 in the facilities of the Centro Cultural Conde Duque. The following year in Matadero Madrid. In two years, over 30,000 people have visited the festival. But the idea was born long before Fringe: Fringe festival itself was established in 1947 in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, when all rejected projects by the official festival (Edinburgh International Festival) decided to do it themselfs. That is how this new concept was born. Since then, following the same philosophy, Fringe festivals have appeared around the globe.
