FILMADRID, Madrid’s international film festival, will bring a selection of international auteur films to the capital from 2 to 11 June, screening more than 60 from all over the world. Thirty or so will compete in the two competition sections, Official and Vanguards, and the rest will be shown in out-of-competition sections and special screenings.
FILMADRID will open and close with two films acclaimed by both critics and audiences: Francofonia by the Russian Aleksandr Sokurov and 11 Minutes by Jerzy Skolimowski from Poland.
This edition is increasing its offering of side activities related to the seventh art and open to the public with an exhibition of audiovisual works entitled Pesadillas icónicas (Iconic nightmares, sala Neomudéjar, from 1 to 12 June) and a movie tour of Madrid, visiting iconic locations featured in Spanish films.
The prestigious US critic Jonathan Rosenbaum will teach a course for the first time in Spain and there will be meetings with filmmakers every morning at the 8y1/2 bookshop. An analogue film workshop will also be held in collaboration with La Casa Encendida.
The Focos section, devoted to internationally renowned directors whose films are seldom shown in Madrid, will host retrospectives on Júlio Bressane, Pietro Marcello and Boris Lehman. Vanguardias Live will bring film to the streets with performances by Spanish directors Javier Rebollo, Lluís Miñarro and Japanese filmmaker Takashi Makino. The Pasajes de Cine section, aimed at promoting new Spanish directors, will screen the work of 13 young filmmakers.
