Festival of Contemporary North African and Middle Eastern Music

Festival of Contemporary North African and Middle Eastern Music

Although the causes are highly complex, each country presenting specific elements, the uprising in the Arab countries is a movement focused on the conquest of liberty and democracy, on bringing to an end the various authoritarian, inefficient and corrupt governments of the region. This movement finds in music one of the key platforms for expressing both criticism of the system and its own political and social demands, while also bringing people together and giving a festive and constructive air to the uprising.

AC/E will be organising a festival to be staged in March 2012 at Matadero Madrid and the Casa Mediterráneo, featuring performers from countries including Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Sudan and Tunisia.
