This year is the 400 anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes death (22 Apri l 1616), author of the still best known book of Spanish Literature around the world: Don Quixote. This masterpiece is considered the world’s first modern novel and one of the most translated books ever. Still today the adventures of this beloved and misunderstood hero and his sidekick Sancho Panza are very inspirational for new generations.

Not better way to commemorate such a special date than honour it during the World Book Day. The 23rd April will take place a public marathon reading of the book (English version) where readers of all nationalities are invited to participate.

The prestigious contemporary Spanish writer, Carlos Castán, is travelling to Edinburgh to present his last novel Bad Light and to host this unique event in Scotland. Local shops and a particular offer of Spanish wine and food will be a perfect combination to have an unforgettable day.

This event is organised by Vamos Scotland with the support of the Spanish Embassy in UK, Consulate General of Spain in Edinburgh and Accion Cultural Española. Everybody is welcome to join the celebration and to take an active part of it. The entrance is free.
