Centroamérica cuenta is an initiative created by the Nicaraguan writer Sergio Ramírez in 2012 to reflect on and discuss key Central American topics through art and literature. Its literary festival is held in different Nicaraguan cities each year and brings together writers, publishers, translators and cultural managers to discuss a broad variety of issues, give readings and forge ties of friendship and cooperation.
The fourth edition of Centroamérica Cuenta will take place from 23 to 28 May 2016. It will be a tribute to Miguel de Cervantes (1547–1616) and Rubén Darío (1867–1916) on the centenaries of their deaths. With the slogan ‘Memory that unites us’, it is based on the theme of memory as a vital element in building Central American identity and a meeting point for its citizens.
Spain’s presence at this fourth edition of Centroamérica cuenta is very important as the event is dedicated to Miguel de Cervantes and Rubén Darío. AC/E is supporting the participation of eight Spanish authors. The president of Centroamérica cuenta, Sergio Ramírez, was a Visitor to the Semana Negra literary festival in Gijón, Spain, in 2015 under AC/E’s Programme for the Internationalisation of Spanish Culture.
