AC/E is supporting the invitation extended by the philharmonic association of Honduras – Asociación Filarmónica de Honduras – to the orchestra conductor Maestro Carlos Checa. This artistic proposal is aimed at bringing together the members of Honduras’s philharmonic orchestra and the Spanish conductor in order to enhance the skills of both. It likewise promotes knowledge of Spanish music in Honduras, incorporating the programme proposal of the Maestro Maestro Carlos Checa. It ends with two concerts featuring Honduran and universal classical music as well as works by Spanish composers to mark the celebration of the National Day of Spain in Honduras.
Carlos Checa started out as an orchestra conductor at the age of 17, under the maestro Francesc Llongueres. He obtained his qualification from the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Barcelona, his city of birth. Specialised in composition, instruments and music teaching, he studied piano, oboe and violin, furthering his training with the maestros Kurt Masur, Antoni Ros Marbà and George Phelivanian. He has conducted orchestras such as the City Chamber Orchestra in Hong Kong and the Orchestra of Radiotelevisión Española, and made his debut in London with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. In May this year, as a guest of the maestro Gustavo Dudamel, he made his highly successful debut in Venezuela at the Fundación de Orquestas Juveniles Simón Bolivar.
