Biennale of Sydney. Cristina Iglesias

Biennale of Sydney. Cristina Iglesias

The 18th Biennale of Sydney: all our relations, curated by Artistic Directors Catherine de Zegher and Gerald McMaster, will bring together international artists to collaborate and create works that are expressive of new thinking and art making. We are confident that this inspiring curatorial collaboration will deliver a groundbreaking Biennale and demonstrate the vibrancy and importance of contemporary art.

Working with an inspirational and dynamic biennale model, the 18th Biennale of Sydney will be an active and passionately engaged producer and generator of new creative ideas inside a broader conversation on the concept of relation. By engaging both the artists and audiences, the Biennale will generate a radical departure – one of collaboration and ongoing conversation.  Artist talks, performances, forums, film screenings, family events, guided tours and other special events will be featured throughout the 18th Biennale exhibition period.
Spanish artists Cristina Iglesias has been invited to take part. For the 18th Biennale of Sydney, Iglesias will present an existing work in a darkened room on Sydney’s historic Cockatoo Island. Cristina Iglesias uses sculpture and architectural installation to create labyrinth-like structures influenced by the baroque tradition of tromp l’oeil – blurring the boundaries between reality and illusion by using reflective surfaces and playing tricks with perspective.

The 17 Biennales between 1973 and 2010 have featured the work of more than 1.503 artists from over 82 countries
