To mark the 40th Anniversary of the Almagro International Classical Theatre, this project, curated by Jorge Díez, promotes a dialogue between the main authors of the Spanish Golden Age and contemporary artists. It sets out to explore the classics and bring them closer to the people while taking a look at contemporary art and artists.
The artistic team is formed by Alicia Martín, Pepe Buitrago, Juan López, Mercedes Lara and Dionisio Cañas. The programme is structured around artistic interventions located in several significant sites in the city Almagro and at the Festival itself, such as the Palace of Valdeparaíso, Espacio Miguel Narros, San Juan Hospital or Almagro Renaissance University. Together with installations and workshops of contemporary art in the Espacio Arte Contemporáneo and Almacén de los Fúcares. As a starting point, the artistic interventions will incorporate a critical reflection on various concepts and themes such as Justice, Time, Dignity, Love, Death, Liberty, Desire or Madness. They will try to link them, and start a dialogue, with classical Spanish theatre by authors like Calderón, Lope de Vega, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz, Cervantes, Tirso de Molina, Guillen de Castro, Leonor de la Cueva y Silva, Rojas Zorrilla, María de Zayas, ...
