This first edition of Amsterdam Spanish Film Festival features a carefully chosen selection of films from Spain and Latin America. The festival will take place in Amsterdam from 27 to 31 May, in The Hague from 5 to 7 June and in Utrecht from 12 to 14 June.
As a showcase for new trends in the cinema, the festival helps enrich Amsterdam’s film culture while making known the latest films released in Spanish and familiarising Dutch audiences with this dynamic and creative sector..
The festival opens with La Isla Mínima (released in English as Marshland), one of the films to secure the highest number of Goyas in the history of these Spanish film academy awards – a total of 10 in 2015.
The creators of this and other films are taking part in the programme through roundtables and talks. The participants include Natalia de Molina, who will present Vivir es fácil con los ojos cerrados; Curro Sánchez with the documentary on Paco de Lucía La búsqueda; Nerea Barros and Jesús Castro; and actress Marta Etura and director Alejo Flah with Easy Sex, bad movies.
The Focus Latino section features the best of this year’s Latin American cinema with an exciting selection of films.
The Spanish Cinema without Fear section shows films on the fringes of the mainstream film industry – films concerned with artistic expression that go beyond the boundaries of traditional narrative. Some of these films are Magical Girl by the director Carlos Vermut and Videophilia (and other viral syndromes).
