The Road to Baeza, by Juan Manuel Bajo Ulloa

The latest short film of the filmmaker Juan Manuel Bajo Ulloa focuses on the seven years that the poet from Seville Antonio Machado spent in the locality of Baeza, in Jaen, teaching at the Instituto de la Santísima Trinidad. It conveys the nostalgia of the author of Campos de Castilla upon his arrival in the city, after the death in Soria of his young wife, Leonor.

One of the scenes captured by The Road to Baeza is the encounter in 1916 between Machado, who was 40 years old at the time, and the then-student Federico García Lorca, who was in the city on an excursion with the Universidad de Granada. The meeting took place at the Artesanos Casino, which was recreated for the documentary at the Nuevo Casino of Baeza, with the participation of seventy extras and the two protagonists, played by Diego Ortega (Machado) and Juan José Hurtado (Lorca). His wife Leonor, played by Teresa Alba, also appears, in the form of memories, in this short film produced by Acción Cultural Española (AC/E).
