The creative relationship established between Víctor Erice and Abbas Kiarostami as a result of the exhibition Erice-Kiarostami. Correspondències created a new cinematographic format: the exchange of filmed letters between two cinema directors, addressing similarities and differences, mutual respect and simultaneous interests.
Taking this experiment as a starting point, the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) invited other filmmakers to explore the format, establishing a range of variables for visual correspondence, viewed as a reflection in the present of everything that motivates them in their surroundings, based on spaces of creative freedom.
The exhibition Todas las cartas (All the Letters) brings together the works resulting from the exchange between the seven pairs of directors who have engaged in this experimental exercise. Pairs of creative minds located in distant territories yet connected by the desire to share concerns and perspectives. The filmmakers involved are Víctor Erice and Abbas Kiarostami, Albert Serra and Lisandro Alonso, Isaki Lacuesta and Naomi Kawase, Jaime Rosales and Wang Bing, José Luis Guerín and Jonas Mekas, and Fernando Eimbcke and So Yong Kim.
These encounters generate a type of film that can only be fully understood if presented in an exhibition space, which must be juxtaposed and simultaneous, to-and-fro, where a context of fresh reflective intimacy is created..
