Aitor Ortiz in Stockholm

Fotografiska, the Swedish Photography Museum in Stockholm, is the venue for Aitor Ortiz's solo exhibition, which will be accompanied by a painstaking monograph on his work by one of the most prestigious photography and contemporary art publishers, the German Hatje Cantz.

Since the mid-90s, Aitor Ortiz has been using photography as a medium to document, analyze, explore and transform architectural space. Beyond its purely descriptive and documentary value, in his hands photography becomes a privileged instrument for the deconstruction of the structure of buildings, visualizing their modular nature, textural qualities and registers of light. His work reflects essentially on the contrasts between shapeless and structured, stable and unstable, light and dark. He also explores the close connection between architecture and photography, delving into the power of the medium as a precise documentation form, along with its huge digital versatility in the creation of fictions.
