The team formed by Rocío Asensi and re-create studio has been the winner of the call for the selection of artistic interventions in the Council buildings on the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second semester of 2023 with their project “Paisaje solar” (Sunscape). The call has been launched jointly by the Coordination Office for the Spanish Presidency of the EU, Acción Cultural Española and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.
Spain will occupy the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union from July 1 to December 31, 2023. For this reason, in this second semester the Council buildings will present the artistic intervention of Rocío Asensi and re-create Studio, which includes the desire to bring the European Union closer to the citizenry so that they appropriate it.
The winning work creates a story of strength and vitality linked to the European political commitment to energy transition. The jury has considered that the joint proposal by Rocío Asensi and re-create studio is a "sober and direct installation", which stands out for its "extraordinary evocative capacity". The creation will consist of three installations in the Council's architectural complex -in the Atrium and in the lobby of the Justus Lipsius building and another in the Forum of the Europa Building-, which will be transformed into welcoming spaces in which a multitude of suns will accompany the passers-by in their day to day. The three artistic interventions combine the human and global scale, with the aim of conveying a sense of peace and a final message: the union of all citizens under the same sun, a central part of the work.
The project has been chosen through a public call launched jointly by the Coordination Office for the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, Spanish Cultural Action and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation. The object of the call has been the selection of proposals for artistic interventions in the different areas of the Council. In the first phase of the call, 28 proposals were submitted. The winning project has been selected by a prestigious committee whose members included Daniel Canogar, Estrella de Diego, Emilio Tuñón, Bea Espejo, Elvira Dyongani and Mabel Tapia, as well as those responsible for the three institutions that called for it.
Likewise, the jury has recognized the quality of the works presented, selecting as finalists for the call the proposals of Beatriz Ruibal, Basurama, Clara Montoya and Rafa Munárriz.
