The Music Festival Potsdam Sanssouci succeeded the Park Festival Sanssouci, which had been held as of 1954, becaming quickly an annual cultural highlight in the GDR. 1991 saw its first staging with a new artistic concept and a new name under the artistic direction of Dr. Andrea Palent, earning an international dimension. The Music Festival is committed to historically informed performances in the historical venues of Potsdam Sanssouci (Unesco Heritage).
In 2018 the Festival´s theme will be Europa within the European Sharing Heritage Year, with a focus on the musical overregional traditions and mutual influences, building a musical Europa without borders. Spain with two ensembles will build the core of the music from the Iberian Peninsula.
AC/E supports the participation of the ensemble on period instruments Euskal Barrokensemble to play a programme with music of the Basque Land on June 9th, 2018 within the Day of European Cultures at the Orangerie of Sanssouci and on June 10th, 2018 in Cecilienhof Castle at our beloved bicycle concert. They will also play a programme with Spanish dance music on June 15th in the Marmorpalais. All venues are Unesco Heritage and Both ensembles are very representative of the high artistic level of the young generation of the Spanish musicians.
