XXII Renaissance and Baroque Music Festival of Vélez Blanco 2023

The Festival is one of the most unique on the Spanish and European music scene. With a careful program of Renaissance and Baroque music, it has incorporated challenges and perspectives of today's world such as the recovery of Spanish musical heritage, the gender perspective, digital media, attention to vulnerable social sectors, social involvement and cooperation, internationalization, among others.

Patronage and Prestige. Music and Culture in the Modern Age is the theme that articulates the artistic and academic program of this 2023 edition. In it, the Festival program offers musical works composed under different forms of patronage in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Groups known as the Academia del Piacere participate, presenting the "Cancionero de la Colombina"; the La Spagna group with Jorge Jimenez on violin, which offers Farinelli's arias at the Spanish court evenings. As well as works by the Italian composer Barbara Strozzi, with the voices of María Espada (Soprano) and Marta Infante (Mezzosoprano), and music produced to accompany theatrical performances with the concert "The Follies of Love of Shakespeare and Byrd", from England. from the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as a concert dedicated to the “Bach-Abel Society in London in the last moments of the Baroque.

 One of the central pieces of the 2023 edition is the Commemoration of the 350th Anniversary of Antonio Literes (Artá-Mallorca 1673- Madrid January 18, 1747) one of the main Baroque authors of the Zarzuela. To celebrate it, the Opera “Los Elementos” has been programmed, performed by the Forma Antiqva group, with the support of Acción Cultural Española.
