World Premiere. Pacific Northwest Ballet

World Premiere. Pacific Northwest Ballet

The Spanish choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo is presenting his new piece entitled World Premiere as part of the Director’s Choice programme organised by Pacific Northwest Ballet. The presentation is due to take place at the PNB in Seattle and will be part of the programme of Joyce Theater during the 2014–15 season. AC/E is collaborating with the initiative through the mobility awards of the PICE.

This work has been made possible by the support of the Rudolf Nureyev Price for New Dance awarded to Pacific Northwest Ballet by the Joyce Theater Foundation. The prize, awarded in 2012, is a commissioning grant, the main purpose of which is to promote the creation of new works for small venues by prestigious dance companies and to allow the public to enjoy dance performances in a more private setting.

Alejandro Cerrudo was born in Madrid and trained at the Real Conservatorio de Danza. He embarked on his artistic career in 1998 as a dancer for a number of prominent international groups such as the Victor Ullate ballet company, Stuttgart Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater and, since 2005, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago where he currently works. In 2009 he became the American company’s first resident choreographer. Prominent among his choreographic repertoire, created for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and other international groups, is Extremely Close, which was first performed by the Compañía Nacional de Danza in 2012.
