Wiener Reflexionen. Tenth Symphonic Concert of the Bienne Soleure 2016

Two Spanish artists are taking part in the last symphonic concert of the 2015/16 season performed by the Bienne Soleure symphonic orchestra – Virginia Martínez, orchestra conductor, and Pablo Ferrández, violoncello soloist – together with violinist Suyoen Kim. They will perform pieces by Brahms, Schoenberg and Mozart.

The Bienne Soleure symphonic orchestra was formed more than 45 years ago. Its symphonic season runs from July to August every year.

Programme
Symphonic concert no. 10 by the Bienne Soleure symphonic orchestra
Bienne 15.06.2016, 19.30.
Virginia Martinez, conductor
Pablo Ferrandez, violoncello
Suyoen Kim, violin

Works
Johannes Brahms, Doppelkonzert a-Moll für Violine, Violoncello und Orchester op. 102
Arnold Schoenberg: Kammersinfonie Nr. 2 es-Moll op. 38
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
‘Haffner’-Sinfonie D-Dur KV 385

This tenth symphonic concert surveys two centuries of Viennese music, from the Romantic sensibilities of Mozart and Brahms to the second Viennese school of Schoenberg. Brahms’ double concerto with its substantial first movement, Hungarian-tinged final movement and melancholic melody of the second movement bears the mark of the composer’s late period.

Arnold Schönberg’s second chamber symphony, a tonal work, is based on three-note motives that vary: elegiac to begin with, followed by the second movement that starts playfully and ends in a tragic climax.

To bring the evening with the young conductor to a close, the concert ends with Viennese classicism, the ‘Haffner’ symphony. ‘It must surely produce a good effect’, stated Mozart of this symphony, which is held to be one of the most important he composed.
