As part of AC/E’s Visitors programme for the internationalisation of culture, Elena Dubinets, Vice President of Artistic Planning for Seattle Symphony Orchestra, is visiting Spain to learn about the zarzuela (operetta) and contemporary music sectors and their current composers, with a packed agenda that includes:
Visits and meetings with AEOS (Asociación Española de Orquestas Sinfónicas), Teatro de la Zarzuela, ICCMU (Instituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales), the music department of the Madrid regional authorities, and the Orquesta de Castilla y León. She will also attend concerts at the Teatros del Canal (Zarzuela), ORCAM Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid, Auditorio Miguel Delibes OSCYL, Auditorio Nacional OCNE and Coro Nacionales de España, and Teatro Real (Opera La Traviata).
Elena Dubinets holds a doctorate from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, her native city. She is currently Vice President of Artistic Planning of Seattle Symphony Orchestra together with Music Director Ludovic Morlot. Her functions include proposing guest conductors and soloists and supervising and making suggestions for each season’s programme. Dubinets is also associate professor at the University of Washington, a member of the advisory board of the university’s School of Music and Department of Slavic Languages and Literature. From 2010 to 2014 she chaired the City of Seattle Music Commission appointed by Seattle City Council. As a musicologist, she has published four books and many articles, chiefly on Russian and American contemporary music, and has given lectures at the American Musicological Society and the Society for American Music.
Seattle Symphony Orchestra, with the collaboration of the AC/E Mobility Programme, will be hiring the young conductor Pablo Rus Broseta as a result of the contacts established in connection with organising this visit.
