At the Bogotá International Book Fair (Filbo) 2025 Pavilion, with Spain as the guest country, the exhibition "Miradas que atraviesan" (Views that Transverse) stands as a space for profound reflection and critical engagement. Curated by Sandra Maunac, this exhibition brings together the work of eight prominent Spanish photographers—Ana Núñez Rodríguez, Clemente Bernad, Cristina de Middel, Jordi Jon, Juan Valbuena, Laia Abril, Nicolás Combarro, and Sofía Moro—who, through long-term photographic projects, explore the complexity of our contemporary worlds.
"Miradas que atraviesan" (Views that Transverse) delves into crucial and often uncomfortable topics, ranging from the harrowing migration routes and the persistent postcolonial legacy in Equatorial Guinea, to the still-vivid memory of the Basque conflict and the historic union struggles in Colombia. Sexual violence, the alarming desertification caused by urban development, the silent architecture of Franco's repression, and the chilling debate over capital punishment are also addressed with an investigative lens and an artistic sensibility that transcends mere documentation.
This exhibition celebrates photography as a powerful tool for research and activism, capable of generating lasting photobooks that provoke critical reflection on the past and present. Each of the eight projects presented is a visual testament to their authors' dedication to unearthing stories, giving voice to the silenced, and confronting injustices. "Miradas que Pierce" invites the viewer to pause, observe closely, and allow themselves to be challenged by these visual narratives that compel us to look beyond the surface and question the realities that surround us.
