NIÑO DE ELCHE is currently underway in recording a new album, to be released at the beginnings of 2018. He will present it in the Netherlands in the 2nd Intermezzo concert series of the new seasonl The content of this project will be an unorthodox anthology of the flamenco genre. The production will include the esteemed Spanish producer Raül Fernández (Refree), under the artistic direction of Pedro G. Romero (artistic director of Flamenco Rebel dancer Israel Galván). The album will also include collaborations from multidisciplinary artists such as Israel Galván, Junco, Pájaro, Diego de Morón, Alejandro Rojas-Marcos, Juan de la Rubia, and others.
This anthology will be informed by a wide breadth of flamenco compositions such as classical zarzuela pieces, versions of Federico Garcia Lorca’s songs (such as the well-known “¡Ay, Carmela!”), the fandangos of Helios Gómez, the caracoles of Valcárcel Medina, malagueña, seguiriyas, among others.
The live performance of this new project will include flamenco guitar, piano, synthesizers and electronica, united by NIÑO DE ELCHE’s vocal performance.
Niño de Elche is a cantaor, a singer of flamenco, but not as we know it. His references are not Camarón or Morente but contemporary deconstructionists like Blixa Bargeld, Diamanda Galas or Scott Walker. He is a multi-disciplinary artist who combines flamenco singing and toque with performance art, poetry, improvisation, minimalism, singer-songwriting, rock and electronics.
