The group exhibition ‘Towards a New Shore’ revolves around how we perceive the universe, the dome above us at which we gaze with astonishment and curiosity. What are the connotations? What desires do we project onto it? What do we hope to find there? The projects presented in the exhibition explore the idea of space through science fiction novels, ancient legends, space films, urban appropriations and celestial music.
AC/E is collaborating on the project by supporting the participation of Spanish artist Regina de Miguel with Voices of Vanishing Words (2013). It recreates the voyage through space of a series of occurrences related to the history of scientific knowledge, such as ecological changes, discoveries that influenced the path of our evolution, technological transformations, etc…. ever since the first television broadcasts were made.
The collection of photographs is arranged in keeping with each of the worlds of the sentence translated into various languages that are no longer spoken or are isolated/in danger of dying out. This hybrid alphabet is in turn linked to a catalogue of images of galaxies in which the existence of a black hole, a dead star, has been detected; and, in turn, to a virtual reconstruction of the geographic areas where the various languages were spoken.
