After closing (November 12), today we have published the lists of participants in the round of competitions that will start from December 10. Despite the problems that the pandemic has caused in schools, 293 teams (2,637 players) from 53 countries have entered the largest online competition ever: the Expo Dubai 2020 World School Chess Tournament, organized by the Spanish Pavilion.

The competition will begin in three qualifying phases through the internet with groups of eight teams that will be eliminated until reaching the twelve that will play the final in person in November / December 2021 in Dubai. The online phases are scheduled to end in June, and if more time is needed they will be extended until September. To prepare the groups, the technical team took into account the time zones and the preferences expressed by the participants.

Never before has an online tournament of this size and characteristics been played, which is a challenge for the Spanish Pavilion at Expo Dubai 2020, which will connect the image of Spain with intelligence through chess and other activities.
