The Time 2 dance festival is an annual contemporary dance festival which takes place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It is organized by Muda Africa, a non-profit organization which gives training in music and dance to the youth of Tanzania. The aim of the festival is to create a platform for Tanzanian, regional and international dancers to showcase their work to an East African audience as well network with dance companies and programmers from around the world.
Time 2 Dance is now in its 9th edition. It is part of the East African AMDA network of contemporary dance festivals which includes 4 countries: Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda. The 2016 festival is looking for performances which combine contemporary dance with other performing artists such as poetry slams, live musicians and video. The festival will take place in 3 different areas of Dar es Salaam accessing different communities. The entrance is free so all social economic groups can attend.
AC/E collaborates with the Spanish dancer and choreographer Aida Colmenero Diaz and her project SHE POEMS, a dance and video project created and directed by herself. The project pays tribute to African Women through poems written by women in Spanish or an African language. SHE POEMS speaks about the identity of African women and the defense of their human rights. The goal is to place women in the role of creator. These women will live a process of empowerment through dance and will become role models for other women. Two choreographies will be created. The first is a duo with 2 female Kenyan dancers, Susane Hawi and Betty Bag^bo and it is called TELL HIM.
