Theatre503 is an internationally renowned new writing theatre in South London. They stage the work of more debut & emerging writers than any other UK theatre, acting as a launchpad for voices that have not been heard yet. Their productions achieve critical acclaim in the broadsheet press, awards, national tours & international recognition.
AC/E supports the English language premiere of Cuzco, by Víctor Sánchez Rodríguez and translated by William Gregory, in a 4-week run at Theatre503 from 23rd January to 16th February 2019. Across 24 performances, UK audiences will access the work of this ground-breaking Valencian playwright in a production created by a team of the brightest emerging British artists. Alongside the play there will be a series of discussion events, including a post-show talk from Víctor on his work & the Spanish theatre scene.
Synopsis
"Everyone in Cuzco wants to sell some mystery" In a bid to save their relationship a Spanish couple travel to Cuzco - conquistador stronghold, Inca city of the puma and tourist paradise. But as the altitude sickness, pisco sours and layers of history take hold, they realise their journey has only just begun. Set along the Inca Trail, this is a sharply contemporary portrait of a couple who become increasingly lost to one another, haunted by their own desires and the ghosts of their colonial past.
