The Spanish association of contemporary art directors (Asociación de Directores de Arte Contemporáneo, ADACE) was established in 2004 for the purpose of bringing together professionals from this cultural sector in order to set up a forum for reflecting on contemporary art museums and centres in Spain. As part of this aim ADACE has so far organised two meetings where professionals from the sector have debated on fundamental issues relevant to understanding the role of the museum and the challenges faced by an institution which, despite current funding difficulties, holds a centre stage position in the economic, social and cultural environment. The third meeting ADACE is proposing – El museo en futuro. Cruces y desvíos – is centred on the future of the museum and its range of possibilities at a time of radical change like the present and the resulting transformation the economic, social, political and cultural model is undergoing. It is intended to be a forum for exchange and debate on questions that affect relations between viewers and cultural institutions in a present marked by the withdrawal of the public sector from cultural funding and the necessary redefining of its structures.
AC/E is collaborating with ADACE in organising this meeting by supporting the participation of some of the international speakers who enjoy prestige in the field of the arts, aesthetic thought, art criticism and museum management.
