The Race to the Indies. Luxury round trip to the palaces of La Granja and Valsaín

MUCAIN, in collaboration with Acción Cultural Española, is celebrating the anniversary of the Royal Palace of La Granja with a series of talks on the trade route that linked East and West.

Segovia became the epicentre of the Silk Road in the 18th century. On the occasion of the tercentenary of the Royal Palace of La Granja, the Carrera de Indias Museum (MUCAIN) has organised a series of talks that will explore the connection between Spain and Asia through this emblematic trade route.

On 21 and 28 September, the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja will host the conferences "The Carrera de Indias. Round-trip luxury in the palaces of La Granja and Valsaín". These sessions will delve into the role of Segovia as a point of arrival for exotic oriental products, such as lacquers, porcelain and ivory objects, which adorned Spanish palaces.

But the Carrera de Indias was not a one-way street. Local products such as glass, textiles and silver coins were also shipped from Segovia to Asia. The talks will analyse the cultural and economic exchanges that took place along this route, highlighting the importance of Segovia in this global trade.
